💡 On 7 October 1826, the Russian and Ottoman Empires signed the Akkerman Convention in the Budjak citadel of Akkerman, present-day Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, Ukraine. The treaty required the hospodars of Moldavia and Wallachia to be elected for seven-year terms with the approval of both powers, and it obliged Ottoman forces to withdraw from the Danubian Principalities and cede control of the Danube ports of Giurgiu, Brăila, and Turnu to Wallachia.
