💡 On 5 October 1743, the settlement that would become Rancagua was established in central Chile, originally under the name Santa Cruz de Triana given by Spanish colonists. It grew into the capital of the Cachapoal Province and the O'Higgins Region, about 87 kilometres south of the national capital, Santiago.
