💡 On 3 October 1866, the Kingdom of Italy and the Austrian Empire signed the Treaty of Vienna, ending the Third War of Italian Independence fought alongside the Austro-Prussian War. It confirmed the transfer of Venetia and most of Friuli to Italy and forced Austria to recognize the new Italian kingdom, completing the breakup of the Kingdom of Lombardy–Venetia, under Habsburg rule.
