💡 Christ the Redeemer, an Art Deco statue of Jesus above Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was completed and unveiled on 12 October 1931 after nine years of construction that began in 1922. Sculpted by Paul Landowski and engineered by Heitor da Silva Costa with Albert Caquot, the statue stands 30 metres tall on an 8-metre pedestal, with arms stretching 28 metres wide across reinforced concrete and soapstone.
