💡 On 6 October 1981, Anwar Sadat, the president of Egypt, was assassinated by members of Egyptian Islamic Jihad during the annual victory parade in Cairo marking the crossing of the Suez Canal in the Yom Kippur War. Although the exact motive remains debated, the killing is widely linked to opposition from communist, socialist, and Islamist groups over Sadat's peace initiative with Israel and the United States following the Camp David Accords.
