💡 On October 3, 2009, some 300 Taliban fighters assaulted the American Combat Outpost Keating near the town of Kamdesh in Nuristan Province, Afghanistan, in the bloodiest clash for U.S. forces since the Battle of Wanat the year before. Eight Americans were killed and 27 wounded before the Taliban were repelled, though the outpost itself was left partially overrun and nearly destroyed.
