💡 On 7 October 2021, at 22:41 local time, an earthquake struck Japan with its epicenter about 4 kilometres southwest of Chiba, at a depth of roughly 62 to 75 kilometres. With a magnitude of 5.9 and a maximum intensity of Shindo 5+, it was the strongest earthquake to hit the Tokyo area since the 2011 Tohoku earthquake, though no deaths were reported.
