💡 Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born in Porbandar, India, on 2 October 1869, and grew up to become a lawyer and anti-colonial nationalist who led India's independence campaign through nonviolent resistance. First called Mahatma, meaning great-souled, in South Africa in 1914, he had earlier moved there in 1893 to represent an Indian client in a lawsuit, living there for the next 21 years.
