💡 By 8 October 1915, the Battle of Loos was drawing to a close on the Western Front in France, the biggest British attack of the year and the first time Britain used poison gas in the war. Despite improved equipment and ammunition, the combined French and British assault in Artois and Champagne failed to break through the German defenses beyond some local gains in ground.
