France
💡 On 22 October 1895, the Granville–Paris Express overran the buffer stop at the Gare Montparnasse terminus in Paris, crashing through the station wall so that its locomotive toppled onto the Place de Rennes below. The train had been running late and approached the station too fast for its brakes to stop it in time; while the passengers survived, a woman in the street below was killed by falling masonry.
