Poland
💡 On 29 October 1706, an anti-Swedish army of Russians, Saxons and Poles led by Augustus the Strong and Russian general Alexander Danilovich Menshikov defeated a Swedish–Polish–Lithuanian force under Colonel Arvid Axel Mardefelt at Kalisz, during the Great Northern War. The battle marked Sweden's only major defeat in Poland during the war, though Augustus soon returned to Saxony under a new peace treaty, allowing Charles XII to send a fresh corps of 8,000 Swedes back into Greater Poland.
